A Credo for Support
07/04/11 13:51
A Credo for Support is powerful 4 minute video set to
music which offers a series of suggestions for people
who care about and support someone with a disability.
It prompts viewers to question the common perceptions
of disability, professionalism, and support. Designed
for use in presentations, in-service, staff training,
and orientation programs, this video can be a
provocative catalyst for a dialogue on these issues.

Say NO to Institutional Care!
07/04/11 13:48
The
Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) is
collecting information from people with disabilities,
families and professionals about how the
Administration should support people with
intellectual and other developmental disabilities.
Besides holding in-person forums across the
country (Envisioning the Future Forums), ADD has been
collecting recommendations online.
Unfortunately, ADD is hearing much more from those who support institutional care over full participation in the community. Please take a moment to add your voice as to how you would like our nation to invest money and effort. If you it makes it easier, you can simply cut and paste this message:
"I believe ADD should support full participation for people with disabilities in the community. People with disabilities want to live, work, and recreate in the community. Please put resources into community supports and services, NOT into institutions."
You can add a personal story if you want. The website for submitting testimony is: http://www.envision2010.net/comment_submit.php.
To see testimonies that have already been posted, please refer to: http://www.envision2010.net/comment_submit.php
It’s critical that ADD hear from many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities or their family members. Please submit your comments before March 4.

Investigation Charges Vaccine-Autism Link Was Fabricated
07/04/11 13:45
"An
infamous 1998 study that ignited a worldwide scare
over vaccines and autism -- and led millions of
parents to delay or decline potentially lifesaving
shots for their children -- was 'an elaborate fraud,'
according to a scathing three-part investigation in
the British medical journal BMJ." In 2009, "British
medical authorities...found the study's lead author,
Andrew Wakefield, guilty of serious professional
misconduct, stripping him of his ability to practice

Personal care attendant money restored (Keep in mind that the budget is not yet secure)
07/04/11 13:44
Gov.
Brian Sandoval said Wednesday his budget restores
some items the previous administration planned to
eliminate, including funding for personal care
attendants.
Sandoval made the statement during a press briefing less than a week before he presents his budget to the Legislature and public at Monday's State of the State address.
He said some cuts proposed by the Gibbons administration were unacceptable — including the money for personal care attendants. PCAs enable the severely disabled to remain in their homes by providing services such as bathing and cooking.
